Rise Against have announced the release of their new DVD Another Station: Another Mile on October 5, 2010 on DGC/Interscope Records. The DVD, which will be available worldwide and also digitally through iTunes, features performances of 14 songs recorded in locations throughout the world. These performances are interspersed with interviews with each band member of the Chicago based band revealing the creative process that goes into making a Rise Against song and the history of each individual band member.

Also this week; “Savior” becomes the longest running song at Alternative radio. The gold plus selling single from the band’s fifth album, 2008′s Appeal To Reason, has spent more than 63 weeks on the Mediabase Alternative chart!

Another Station: Another Mile begins with a statement from the band:

“Since we put together our last DVD, the snowball that is Rise Against is still gathering size and speed. What you hold in your hands is the continuing story of our band, what it means to us, and what it means to people like you. At our request, all the live footage you see in the DVD is completely unedited; meaning we didn’t go back and fix or re-do anything. We felt it should stand or fall on its own merit, and be embraced for what is, which is live music. Who knows, maybe we’ll feel differently next year. But for now, the moments are captured raw as we make our way to another station: another mile.”

Visit www.RiseAgainst.com for more information and watch two outtakes from the upcoming release on YouTube!

We sat down with Monoxide of the infamous TWIZTID to talk about BIG MONEY RUSTLAS.

1. Big Money Rustlas has just arrived on DVD. For those who are unaware, what is main plot of the film?

M: It’s about a town that is lawless and infiltrated by a notorious band of thugs. That’s all I’m telling.

2. You have a rabid fan base that has been waiting for this film for quite some time. From the script to production, how long did the movie making process take?

M: It took a little under 7 years I believe.

3. How did you go about choosing the cast?

M: We weren’t involved in that aspect of the movie.

4. What is the Psychopathic connection with Jason Mewes?

M: We’re all just big fans of his brand of comedy. He had a very naturalness about his humor and we knew he would be a perfect fit for the part of deputy.

5. How did the screenings at The Gathering go? Was it well received?

M: The Gathering screening went well. It had such an anticipation that everyone went nuts right from the start of the opening credits.

6. Any plans for a sequel?

M: Always planning something.

7. Lastly, What do you want people to get out of the movie?

M: Entertainment!

The band’s debut album, Resident Alien, went gold on the Billboard charts, selling a million copies and spawned the hit single and video “In the Meantime” as well as the single “Cruel To Be Kind”.

Human Cycle is a brand new band, fresh out of Portugal. Not only does that make them unique but so does their sound. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite feel it from them. They had a very unstructured EP, with the five songs going in all directions. I felt very lost as to what the story was supposed to be in the album, as all records tell some sort of story. I think because they are a fairly new band and that it was an EP, that mistakes are bound to happen. I mean who’s perfect with the first thing they attempt at? As this is a short EP, I’ll cover each of the songs individually.

The first song is “Lead the Way”, also the title of the album. I found it flat out repetitive. The tune was just way too plain and had no special variation at all. I felt that they didn’t even try to keep it interesting. I was just bored with this song. The next track is one that was a bit better called “Forta dos Segredos” meaning “Door of Secrets” in Portuguese. It has a kind of dark tune to it, which usually creeps me out, but this matched the singer’s voice so well that I just found it to be a good song. Unlike the opener, this song’s key matched the singer perfectly, making it sound much smoother. That was another problem with the first song. The key was too high and the singer’s voice was too low. It didn’t match causing it to be unbalanced. After this comes “Licking Scars”, which is pretty much the same as “Lead the Way” in the form of the problem with the key and the singer’s voice. It, on the otherhand, has better guitar riffs and beats, making it a bit more likable. “Reflexo (passo a passo)”, the next song, is, quite frankly, strange. The transition from alternative music to this techno pop song was not seen coming and overall, I found it uncomfortable. It actually made me cringe.

The closer is a song called “Bottom Line”. Like the rest of the EP, it wasn’t strong or fairly decent. It was similar to the first song: repetitive and boring. There’s not that much to say about this record. There were only five songs, reasonable for an EP, but all the songs were unimpressive. They were all uneventful and I didn’t feel any connection within it. Overall, it was a disappointment. But, as I said before, this was only an EP so there is plenty of room for improvement. I do think that these guys do have potential if they really try hard in working on their sound.

I give this EP a 1 out of 5 stars.

"The most profitable music oriented company is a hardware company (Apple)"

Serj Tankian will release his new album Imperfect Harmonies on September 21st and recently wrapped up his first ever show in Armenia. He spoke with me about the new album, new poetry book, and David Bowie.

1. What can fans expect from the new album Imperfect Harmonies?

A unique sound backed with conviction and melancholic resonance.

2. You recently performed for the first time in Armenia. What was that experience like?

It was mind blowing. The level of excitement was 11 out of 10 there. It was the busiest 30 hours of my life. It was great to see a new wave of inspired eco-activist Youth and other progress in the country.

3. What is your view on the current state of the music industry? Isn’t it time for major labels to go with the current flow and adapt to the new ways people access and listen to music?

The most profitable music oriented company is a hardware company (Apple). The majors will evolve into focused music marketing companies as physical retail chains and distriburtors go under. Subscription coupled with streaming services will rule.

4. You have a great knack for melody in your songwriting. What styles of music influence you the most?

Something different all the time.

5. Do you still write a lot of poetry? I was a fan of Cool Gardens.

Yup. I’m putting out a 2nd poetry book called “Glaring Through Oblivion” next year with artwork by my friend Roger Kupelian, top digital painter on many films.

6. What are some political causes/groups are you affiliated with currently that people should know about?

The cause that is most dear to my heart is obviously genocide recognition. But through Axis of Justice, Tom Morello and I work on many causes together (from food banks to disaster relief, labor to environmental injustice, etc). I’ve worked on numerous occasions with Amnesty Int’l on their Darfur campaign as well as freedom of speech in Turkey. AOJ also has a great site www.axisofjustice.net and a radio show tom and I have hosted for many years.

7. Does Serj Tankian live a “Green” lifestyle?

As much as I know how to, yes.

8. Who is on the list of musicians that you would like to collaborate with but have not as yet?

Bjork, Tom Waits, Thom Yorke, Andre 3000, David Bowie, to name a few.
